| Air filter hot/cold air inlet valve |
 |
hi
My AScona 1.6 SV 88 is euipted with an air filter as shown on the pictures. The valve is only regulated by a thermosat, NOT vacuum from the inlet manifold.
I wonder wether the thermostat can be serviced on this air filter typer or I have to purchase an entire air filter, complete with housing and all.
Someone out there who can fill me in ?
best regards Flemming

Hello Flemming,
my englisch is not so good, but I want try to help you.
In Germany we have "Kriechöl" WD40. With this product you can oil the mechanik. If that does not help, I recommend the change the system to "change-over to you by hand".
The flap must be changed over only in the winter < 5°C to warm air. That protects against carburetor icing.
Regards,
BÄR

yo, Baer is right, anti seize like WD 40 should revive it; if you can´t fix it try and look for the thermostat itself or the whole air filter element on a junk yard. and make sure to reconnect the tube to the manifold when putting the filter back onto the car.

hi guys
thank you for the answer. I did the "change-over to you by hand". It didn't help.
So maybe the "iceing" symptons are nor realy "iceing" but some thing else. What could that be. The motor seems to loss power when accelarated, ocaasianally, and typically after 10 minutes driving(which indeed indivates iceing)
One more question:
As mentioned my airfilter is ONLY controlled by a thermastate valve and a spring. Not by a vaccum motor feaded from the inlet manifol. The HAYNES manuel does not include such a type. do you know if it is a original OPEL type air filter ?
regards Flemming
